We help create an exceptional events calendar for Southport
The Southport BID team works hard to create and support a programme of special events designed to enhance the activities taking place in Southport. We’re really proud of our own events, which include Southport Halloween Festival and our flagship Christmas Switch On, and the key role we play in delivering the Southport Festival each May.
Our events drive footfall out of the peak summer season and our dedicated marketing reaches hundred’s of thousands and ensures that Southport’s profile remains high all round.

The dedicated website spookysouthport.com allows a chance for all town centre businesses who would like to be involved promote their Halloween event or offer. Our Spook Up Your Business competition helps get everyone involved and give a great festival atmosphere throughout the town centre.

We are the sole organisers of Southports big annual Christmas lights switch on event! Each year we put on a huge family event and live show packed with local performers and big name acts to turn on our Christmas lighting scheme. The event, taking place in November each year, attracts thousands into the town centre each year with over 40,000 people in the centre for 2019s event and a peak crowd of 9,000 people.
With previous headliners including The Overtones, S Club and East 17, last year’s sensational Peter Andre made the event bigger then ever with people travelling in from throughout the North West. The event has always gone down well with families and had a superb atmosphere with fireworks exploding to music as the magical tree lit up.
2017s event moved to a Sunday following requests from levy payers and proved a huge success. With additional attractions in place and a full afternoon of entertainment around the town centre people lingered all day.
In 2015, 2017 and 2018 we installed an ice rink into the Town Hall Gardens for the entire Christmas period. Designed to bring families and groups into the town centre and provide them with a great Christmas experience in the town. 2017s was even bigger then the first time and was full throughout the weekends and school holidays with hundreds of families skating. 2018’s was our biggest year yet with a full open air rink beneath the digital tree.
We provide funding and localised support for other events within the town centre.
Southport Comedy Festival
Since taking over the comedy festival several years ago, local company Big Comedy UK have turned the event in to a superb two weeks of comedy with some huge names performing. We provide additional funding and support to the festival to help it grow and to put on a series of Comedy Pub Crawls. These great events take a series of comedians into venues that wouldn’t normally have this kind of act on. It is free to the business and can fill their venue on a quiet night! It gives great exposure online to the venue and helps the people on the night discover somewhere new.
